Country Walkers Walks: How Tough Are They?

It's one of the top questions guests ask when they are planning their adventure with us: Will I be able to handle the walking?

We understand you are looking for a certain type of walk, whether it's a vigorous, heart-pumping excursion where hiking is the focal point, or perhaps you're looking for more of a leisurely pace, where walking is simply the way you choose to see the countryside.

At Country Walkers, we have walks for everyone who has at least a basic level of fitness. If you garden, walk your dog, and take a hike every now and then, you're likely fit enough for our walks categorized as 'easy terrain', such as Holland: Tulips, Windmills & Waterways. You won't walk more than four hours per day, covering between two and six miles, and no more than 750 feet in elevation gain.

What if you're in great shape? Perhaps you're extremely active, and looking for a vacation that incorporates your high level of fitness. Our moderate to challenging and challenging tours won't disappoint. Montana: Glacier National Park or Amalfi Coast & Capri are rated moderate to challenging, or moderate with challenging sections. You'll spend up to seven hours per day hiking, covering six to 12 miles and up to 3,000 feet of elevation gain. The physical effort was well worth it for our guests, Bill and Sue Chandler, who took the challenge with our Nepal: Annapurna & Seti Rivertour, which is rated moderate to challenging. They said Country Walkers "provides a comfortable, safe environment without anyone feeling like they are pampered. We felt like we earned our delicious meals with the vigorous trekking, but felt enormously privileged to be there."

The most challenging tours we offer are Italy: The Amalfi Coast and France, Italy & Switzerland: The Mont Blanc Circuit. You'll trek six to 14 miles per day, gaining up to 4,000 feet in elevation. There's no doubt your legs will feel these treks, but you won't have to put your fitness program on hold just because you're traveling.

Looking for something in between? Our easy to moderate, and moderate tours are the best of both worlds—you'll experience plenty of walking and still have enough energy to enjoy the other aspects of the trip. Most of our trips, in fact, fall in the moderate range. Our Italy: Tuscany & Umbria tour is rated at a easy to moderate, for instance, and said guest Lynda Hohman of New York, "Wonderful food, fabulous wine, wonderful hikes…and I lost four pounds!  What more could you ask for!" It's true ... who has ever heard of losing weight while on vacation, especially in Italy?

We'd love to find the perfect activity level for you. Please call us at 800.464.9255 for detailed trail information on our tours or if you have any questions.
