On the rugged coastline Dalí called home, Catalonia fires the imagination—and the appetite.
Bougainvillea petals litter the cobblestones, and the sun casts warm shadows on Cadaqués’s whitewashed houses. With light this gorgeous, no wonder Picasso and Dalí settled here! Touring Dalí’s former home this afternoon, with its giant eggs and eccentric taxidermy, has enhanced your appreciation of the artist’s genius. At the same time, as you stroll through landscapes of unspeakable beauty on this walking tour in Spain, it’s easy to feel like anyone could have the eye of an artist here: from the fanciful rocks of Cap de Creus to Santa Margarida’s Romanesque chapel, nestled in a lush volcanic crater. A pleasant buzz fills the streets as tapas bars open their sidewalk tables. After exploring the Costa Brava’s rugged coves and sapphire waters, you’re ready. Let the evening ritual begin: a glass of Empordà, a plate of paella, and sunset over the Mediterranean.
- Stay in the seaside village of Cadaqués, enjoying the same serene views of the Costa Brava that inspired artists like Salvador Dalí and Picasso.
- Explore the dormant volcanoes of the Garrotxa region, a secluded stretch of woodland in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
- Wander the historic center of Girona, discovering its narrow cobbled streets, pedestrian bridges, and ancient defensive walls.
- Take in commanding views of the country and sea from the Benedictine Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, built on the crest of a mountain.
La Rectoria de Sant Miquel de Pineda
Set in a 12th-century rectory, this family-run bed-and-breakfast has been lovingly restored by hosts, Roy and Goretti, a Scottish chef and a Catalan whisky expert. The seven un-air conditioned guest rooms with complimentary WiFi are rustic-chic—simply adorned with terracotta tile floors, white walls, beautiful tile and wood-beamed ceilings, and antique décor. In addition to the ‘Old Kitchen’ with its wood-burning stove, exposed beams, and cozy seating, there is a TV lounge, outdoor patio, large lawn, and a secluded outdoor salt-water swimming pool. The excellent on-site restaurant features Chef Roy’s fresh, homemade cooking along with a panoramic view of the Hostoles Valley.
Mas Can Batlle
Family-owned and operated, the Mas Can Batlle is a restored farmhouse compound on a site continuously occupied for almost a thousand years. Intimate and welcoming with just five individually decorated, un-air conditioned suites, the eclectic guesthouse incorporates hand-restored antiques and furnishings, Moroccan arts and crafts, as well as rustic and modern touches. Terracotta floors, arched doorways, high ceilings, large windows, and a very small chapel with original frescoes add to the unique character of the place. Guests may relax on one of the terraces or by the outdoor swimming pool. The main floor is composed of a small library, a self-serve bar, game room, and fireside dining room. Please note: this accommodation is available on limited departures.

Each luxurious room is equipped with climate control, a safe, hot-water kettle for coffee- and tea-making, flat-screen TV, free WiFi and a private bath with shower, bathrobe, slippers and hairdryer.

Country Walkers was really wonderful to work with and provided in-depth means for us to find our way around. I highly recommend this company and this tour!
