Travel Alert Updates

Travel & the Coronavirus

Today’s Date:

Country Walkers takes the safety of our guests seriously—it’s a top priority. We’re closely monitoring COVID-19, commonly known as the “novel coronavirus,” and are obtaining updates multiple times a day from a wide variety of government agencies, local staff, and partners. It’s these authorities that we rely on when making decisions about our tours, rather than the latest media headlines. We feel a deep responsibility to our guests to get it right.

To ensure an effective and timely response to any new developments, we’ve updated a few key policies. We will update this page as we continue to adapt to this fluid situation.

Policy Last updated: 3/23/20. Made changes to “Will Country Walkers Run Tours?” and “Deciding Whether or Not to Cancel”.

Will Country Walkers Run Tours?

Due to COVID-19 trends currently being reported by our trusted sources, we are canceling all departures leaving on or before May 31, 2020. We are currently contacting all booked guests to provide further details, including refund options. Due to the volume of cancellations, we appreciate your patience as we reach out to each affected guest. We will make evaluations about additional cancellations in the coming days and weeks.

Our goal is to keep guests safe while still enabling as many people as possible to travel. For tours departing after May 31, 2020, our plan will be to cancel tours 45 days prior to departure if our trusted sources advise against travel to the region, or if government restrictions make travel difficult or impossible. In that event, guests will receive a refund (minus any applicable third-party fees).

Of course, all guests must make their own evaluations about what feels safe to them. We respect and value that, so we’ve updated our tour cancellation policy to give our travelers more options.

No-Risk Cancellation Policy

Non-Riverboat Tours

  • Effective immediately, we are modifying the $150 administrative fee for all 2020 cancellations made up to 91 days prior to departure.  Guests will instead receive a $150 credit valid for travel completed by December 31, 2021.
  • For all 2020 destinations and departures (except riverboats) through June 30, 2020, guests may cancel up to 61 days prior to departure and receive a 75% refund (minus any nonrefundable fees agreed to ahead of time). The 25% balance will be made available as a credit valid for travel completed by December 31, 2021.
  • For ALL 2020 destinations and departures through June 30, 2020, guests may cancel from 60 days up to 14 days prior to departure and receive a 100% future travel credit (minus a $500 administrative fee per person and any nonrefundable fees agreed to ahead of time) valid for travel completed by December 31, 2021.

Riverboat Tours

  • Effective immediately, we are modifying the $250 administrative fee for all 2020 cancellations made up to 121 days prior to departure. Guests will instead receive a $250 credit valid for travel completed by December 31, 2021.
  • For all 2020 riverboat tours departing through June 30, 2020, guests may cancel up to 61 days prior to departure and receive a 50% refund (minus a $950 administrative fee per person and any nonrefundable fees agreed to ahead of time). The 50% balance will be made available as a credit valid for travel completed by December 31, 2021.
  • For ALL 2020 destinations and departures through June 30, 2020, guests may cancel from 60 days up to 14 days prior to departure and receive a 100% future travel credit (minus a $1,750 administrative fee per person and any nonrefundable fees agreed to ahead of time) valid for travel completed by December 31, 2021.

Deciding Whether or Not to Cancel

Ultimately, each guest’s decision on whether to travel is their own. While we are happy to share information from health authorities and clarify our policies, no one knows better than you what your personal priorities, health needs, and feelings about risk might be.

Currently, the U.S. government is advising against all international travel. We have canceled all departures leaving through May 31, 2020.
