Ecuador: Galapagos Land-Based

Your Galápagos walking adventure provides an opportunity to slow down and encounter the wildlife, landscape, and local residents up close. Start on Santa Cruz Island with days of reef snorkeling and treks to rarely visited areas sporting blue-footed boobies and giant iguanas. Soak in superb ocean sunsets from the balcony of your luxurious safari-style tent and enjoy chef-prepared meals before heading to Isabela, the archipelago’s largest yet least-visited island. Here, you’ll journey from tidal lagoons and a local fishing village to steaming, lava-carved landscapes of volcanoes and fumaroles.

Roam the unusual rock formations of Tintoreras and join the flamingos as you follow walkways through humedale marshlands to a tortoise breeding center. At the summit of the Sierra Negra Volcano, you’ll view a 6½-milewide caldera that’s the world’s second-largest, and amble through history in the San Cristobal highlands to the islands’ oldest settlement. Swim with playful sea lions amid ocean outcroppings, and complete the week by retracing Darwin’s steps as your guide weaves the history of evolution and the islands together.
